Hi, our names are Rodney and Shelley, and we would both like to welcome you to YouTrainYou.com.
We are a couple that work together as personal trainers, workout together at home, and love good food. We hope we can share our combined 15 years of experience in the world of Health, Exercise and Nutrition, with you.
Although taking care of yourself takes work, it doesn’t have to be complicated. We have simple, no-nonsense, straight forward advice from the male and female perspective.
And Oh yeah, just in case you were wondering, we are parents too!
I always loved playing sports as a kid. I really enjoyed basketball and soccer. When I started University I felt something in relation to movement was going to interest me the most. So, I decided on a degree in Kinesiology.
I won’t bore you with the details of what happened since then. In a nutshell, I worked at a lot of different gyms, learned from some brilliant people in the industry, and have applied that knowledge to the best of my abilities to help clients get stronger, reduce pain, and add life to their years, and maybe even years to their life.
I started my own personal training business in 2009, and over time have developed the specialty of working with elderly clients, clients with injuries, and anyone else that wants to get stronger, eat better, and most important, feel better.
In January 2014 I got really lucky. I met Shelley….
Growing up on Fogo Island, Newfoundland, I was always active as a kid. There was always somewhere to be running. It is a small place and we had to make our own fun, that was what made it so special. I didn’t appreciate it then, but I certainly do now. A peaceful weekend away usually leads me there.
When I finished high school, I moved away from home at the age of 17. I was so young and wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but I did know I wanted to work with people. I was in college when I got a job with a local airline at their executive hanger. I loved this job! I met people from all over the world and learned so much about customer service. It didn’t feel like work ever.
In October 2007 I gave birth to my first child, Kalem. I devoted my life to taking care and raising him. And after Kalem experienced some health complications when he was just two and a half, I decided to stay home full time with him.
After meeting Rodney (I guess I got lucky too…) in 2014, as my trainer, I fell in love with strength training. I couldn’t get enough, and haven’t stopped since.
After 4 years of working out together, mostly at home, I decided I wanted to become a personal trainer. I acquired my certification through the International Sport Sciences Association (ISSA).
Rodney and I work with the same clientele, but I really enjoy connecting with female clients, other Mom’s especially.
After we worked out together long enough, we decided we should do everything else together. After all, the couple that workouts together, stays together (google it!).
We started dating, we bought a house together and then had our little girl, Sydney in January of 2017. We live in Paradise, NL, Canada. We are real people with real stories and real advice.

The Fitness Industry
Where do we start? Open your news feed on Facebook, Instagram, or even go into a Fitness YouTube vortex. What’s right? What’s wrong? What’s a Kettlebell? What happened to Dumbbells?
If this has happened to you or someone you know, then please let us try to help you. Every industry is moving faster than ever because of this knowledge age, but the Fitness Industry is the hardest in our humble opinions.
You can have ZERO credibility, ZERO Education, but as long as you have nice Under Armor/Fabletics on, a camera, and look in shape, you are officially an expert! (Imagine a video of a guy or girl with a suit and stethoscope, claiming they are a Doctor, would you check to make sure?)
It Can Actually Be Easy
Working out isn’t easy, that’s not what we mean. What we mean is the process of designing a strength training program can be easy, and we will show you just that. We will show you how you can work around injuries, and get a gym quality workout in your home, with just a few pieces of equipment.
Eating healthy can be easy too, when it’s delicious, and that’s what we also intend to show you. Do we love not so healthy food too? Damn right we do, and we will show you recipes for that as well.
Are we in shape? Yes we would say we are doing okay. Shelley is 5’2″ and fluctuates between 115-120lbs. And I am 5’9″ and I fluctuate between 172-177lbs. Why do we give ranges for our weight? Because that’s what everyone’s weight does! It’s normal.
We’ll do our best to give you information that actually works, plain and simple.
